Pity our poor, ignorant local Ugandan artistes. In the quest for that elusive fame and the urge to get rich very quickly, they are making grave artistic errors. They crank out album after album. Two, sometimes three, albums in a year!

The Sweden-based Ugandan reggae artiste Madoxx Sematimba, who won our hearts with smooth, slickly produced romantic tunes like Namagembe, Tukolagane, and Irene, prefers to wait because an artiste is judged by his last works.

His reggae vibes rocked the country for six years as he waited for his creative juices to be refilled. And now the waiting has paid off handsomely.

Madoxx rebounded with a gorgeous 12-track album titled Abato that will be released by Kasiwukira next Monday. It is a nicely balanced set, full of supremely enjoyable reggae songs in Luganda and English.

It seems time and roots reggae have a way of inspiring Madoxx to come up with catchy melodies that are suited for his lazy-but-smooth singing style. Just about every track from the opening track Kampala, Abato, Come Let, Nakatudde, All the time lover, Leka Nkulage, Ngolabye, Kabiite Easy, Fed up, Wansonyi, to the last one: Won’t give up is good and can stand on its own as a single. All these tracks are loaded with simple-yet -sophisticated, interesting and engaging songs.
