LONDON College came of age by lifting their first ever national schools trophy in the sevens circuit after winning the Plate cup in the final leg of the championship hosted by St. Mary’s College Kisubi on Saturday.

The champions needed a 12-05 victory against their sister school St Lawrence Paris Paliais campus in the final of the plate to accumulate 100 points, beating Namilyango College (98), Kings College Budo (96) and Creamland Campus (96) to the award.

A powerful performance from former giants Namilyango College only won them the main cup of the fifth leg, beating hosts SMACK 19-05 in the final with youngsters Andrew Barasa and Lawrence Wakabi touching the line.

Namilyango, who had earlier suffered a 12-7 defeat by SMACK in the preliminaries, thumped Kings College Budo 21-00 in the semi-final of the main cup to underline their drive for honours.

London College dethroned Creamland Campus who had won the trophy for two consecutive years.

Action turns to the schools Independence Cup October 8 at Kyadondo ground.
