NELSON Wafula scored 19 points as Warriors posted a 89-82 victory to knockout Miracle in the Falcons Invitational tournament at Lugogo.
Following an earlier 73-54 loss to Kenya’s Ulinzi, Miracle, who are bottom of pool B, will now watch the rest of the tournament from the sidelines.
It was clear from the start that Miracle needed a comprehensive win to stand a chance of advancing. They took early control of the game, using a 22-12 run to build a 34-27 half time lead spurred by Ben Komakech and James Kirabo.
But trailing 69-58 entering the fourth quarter, Warriors rallied with a 14-6 push from Wafula, Stephen Okias and Brian Gumisiriza to secure victory for the Kyambogo-based team.
Meanwhile, Falcons connected 51 percent of their fast-breaks for a 89-71 victory over Uganda Christian University.
Eric Malinga scored a game-high 22 points while Henry Malinga added 15 points — that had three dunks — to give the hosts victory on Monday.
The women’s contest saw MUK-Sparks ignite a fourth-quarter scoring spree to overcome Burundi’s Walempo Sisters 54-31.
MTN, Rwenzori Mineral Water, Asiatic Sport, Daily Monitor, International Basketball Association (FIBA) Africa, Security Group and Federation of Uganda Basketball Association (FUBA) have boosted the third Falcons Invitational.
