ZIMBABWEAN Conrad Rautenbach and co-driver David Milner in a Subaru N10 were crowned Zambian International Rally 2006 winners Sunday after posting the best time of 2:49:33.
The win ensured Rautenbach goes second in the Africa Rally Championship (ARC) race chart.
Fellow countryman Richard Robinson finished second after posting 2:52:07 hours in the sixth ARC event.
“I am glad I have won my second ARC event but my run will depend on my British Championship performance where I have an event in two week’s time,†said the youngster about the next ARC event in Rwanda on the same date.
Belgian Patrick Emontspool, who finished third with time of 2:54:59, leads the Arc with 24 points, four ahead of the tying Zimbabweans.
Uganda’s Riyaz Kurji Africa champions Muna Singh (Zambia) were bundled out in the early stages of the event.
Douglas Mazune adds that Susan Muwonge, the most promising female driver, has bounced back for next week’s MOSAC rally in a powerful Subaru Impreza N-4 ending a five-month break.
Muwonge, by then in a Subaru Legacy, impressed on her previous outing in the Rakai Development rally. Her Subaru was previously driven by National Rally Championship (NRC) leader Ronald Ssebuguzi until last March.
“The Legacy was weak, it couldn’t take on men. I have tested the power of my new machine. I am a powerful woman ready to match its power.
“I want to finish this season at least second in CRC (clubman title) and then target the national race next season. With such a good car and the experience I will have gathered, why wouldn’t one go for the national title,†Muwonge bragged.
