DRIVERS vying for the 2007 African Rally Championship (ARC) will have to declare their intentions before the championship gets underway.
Confederation of African Countries in Motorsport (CACMS) annual assembly came up with the decision in Lusaka, Zambia on Thursday.
“There will be registration for the 2007 African Rally Championship. So only registered drivers will score ARC points,” read a statement issued by CACMS after the assembly.
Federation of Motorsport Clubs of Uganda (FMU) president David Bitalo represented Uganda in the meeting.
The assembly also changed the super rally system to follow the new World Rally Championship (WRC) system where top competitors get bonus points for every leg completed.
“Super rally participants will not be included in the final classification,” the statement added.
The super rally system is where competitors who drop out of a rally event rejoin the race with a penalty on each of the sections they may have missed.
FMU competitions committee will decide whether to implement the new rules in the 2007 National Rally Championship.
