KABALE court has banned Kigezi Human Rights Activists (KHRA) from operating due to contempt of court.
Kabale Chief Magistrate Irene Akankwasa made the order recently, ruling that the ban should be slapped on the NGO to permanently bar it from future operations.
This followed an application by a Kabale resident, Nyakaishiki, seeking orders against Denatus Guma, the NGO manager, alleging that he incited the public to oppose a ruling by the court in a land case that had been concluded.
“In order to prevent any further abuse of court process by KHRA, their activities are hereby stopped permanently.
“Any interested and responsible citizen is free to operate a freshly registered NGO with similar activities, since they are beneficial to the local community, if carried out properly,†Akankwasa ruled.
She agreed with Rwaganika’s submissions that Guma had engaged in outrageous acts by convening public meetings to discuss a decided case in which Peace Kakuru had lost to Nyakaishiki and inciting the public to oppose the court’s decision.
