FORMER Mozambique President Joachim Chissano met President Yoweri Museveni and thanked him for the award bestowed upon him by the Government of Uganda as one of the heroes of the National Resistance Movement’s (NRM) armed struggle.

Mozambique’s FRELIMO Liberation Party is famous for using the people’s protracted armed struggle that finally dislodged Portuguese colonialism.

“Mr. Chissano briefed President Museveni on his work as chairman of the Committee of Eminent Persons to oversee the elections in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC),” State House said yesterday in a statement issued by Venerato Keeya.

“He assured President Museveni that his committee was working hard to harmonise the political contenders in the DRC to ensure peace regardless of who becomes the next President,” it said.

They discussed “the noble work” of the Forum of former African leaders, of which Chissano is chairman.

Ministers Sam Kutesa of foreign affairs and Isaac Musumba, state for regional affairs attended the meeting.
