THE 23km Kampala Northern Bypass is to be completed and handed over before the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM).

The bypass, which was supposed to be completed by November, will be completed by July 2007 because of additional work.

“Our intention is to hand over the road to the Government by July next year in order to enable authorities do an effective plan of the traffic flow during the CHOGM,” K.S.V. Kumar, Spencon Services’ project manager, said.

Kumar said the work would cost an extra sh7b to bring the total project cost to sh90b (excluding Value Added Tax) from the initial sh83b.

He said there had been an increase in the rock fill to be put in the swamps from 140,000 cubic metres to 250,000 cubic metres.
