CELTEL has conducted the second draw of the Build our Nation programme by choosing seven schools from seven districts in the north.
Build our Nation is a social responsibility programme, which aims at providing teaching aids to schools.
Primary education state minister, Peter Lokeris, conducted the draw at Lira Modern Primary School.
Lira Modern Primary School, Umwia Primary School in Adjumani, Ogwangadar Primary School in Apac, Ogo Primary School in Koboko, Owere Primary School in Nebbi, Awach Central Primary School in Gulu and Anyafio Primary School in Arua will benefit.
Lira Modern was the first beneficiary and got 200 textbooks.
Celtel’s managing director, Yesse Oenga, said, “Celtel is committed to investing in the community to ensure that our programmes provide maximum benefit to communities in which we operate.”
Oenga said, “Though the Government is doing a commendable job of financing Universal Primary Education, there is need for support from donors and corporations.”
Lokeris said, “Education of our children is so important that it should not be left to the Ministry of Education alone. We welcome this initative by Celtel and pledge our continuation to support the programme to build our nation.”
He said the Government was investing in education so that the country has a work force, which is literate, informed and innovative.
The first draw was conducted in Mbale in June.
