FIRST Lady Janet Museveni has applauded the Uganda Women lawyers’ Association (FIDA-U) and other civil society organisations for achieving the objectives of the convention on Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW), reports <b>Paul Kiwuuwa. </b>

FIRST Lady Janet Museveni has applauded the Uganda Women lawyers’ Association (FIDA-U) and other civil society organisations for achieving the objectives of the convention on Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW), reports Paul Kiwuuwa.
Uganda is one of the 51 member African countries that embrace CEDAW.
Mrs. Museveni pledged her commitment to working with FIDA in the emancipation of women and other marginalised groups.
In a speech read by gender minister Syda Bbumba during a fundraising dinner at Serena Hotel Kampala on Saturday.
Janet said Uganda had made tremendous progress in upholding and advancing women’s rights. She hailed FIDA for being a voice to the voiceless.
“Your advocacy has played a role in influencing government policies and societal attitudes towards women and children,” she said. The dinner was to raise funds to construct FIDA house.
