Getting a good fridge is a hard task. Amar Chandarana, the director of Appliance World on Jinja Road, says, “A good refrigerator is recognised by its, brand, storage capacity, energy efficiency, durability and the guarantee attached to it.
Chandarana says, LG fridges, which are manufactured from Korea, range from those with single doors, double to those with side by side doors.
Side-by-side fridges allow easy access to the contents. Chandarana says this is the latest model on the market. The side-by-side fridge also has a built-in ice beam or maker and water dispenser into the door for easy access. It has a four-way cooling system.
Double door fridges with an ice beam cost between sh840,000 and sh2.8m. At appliance world, one will find up to 36 different sizes. Products sold at Appliance World are new and a one-year warranty is offered. They also provide free delivery within Kampala.
Lalani Karim, the director Appliance Ltd, says they sell good refrigerator brands like Daewoo and Ignis. The fridges are made of hard metal body. Their prices range from sh250,000 to sh400,000 depending on the size.
Karim says other good refrigerator brands include; Panasonic, Samsung and Nakai.
One can also get durable fridges from Besmo on Jinja Road. Their prices range from sh350, 000 to sh1m depending on the size. Besmo offers a one-year guarantee for the fridge and three-year guarantee for its compressor. At Besmo, one can also find double door fridges.
“Double door and side by side fridges have a system which enables them to be four times faster at cooling than the ordinary fridges,†says Rao at Besmo. They have a frost-free system that helps to adjust the moisture levels in the fridge. Besmo also offers free transport to buyers within Kampala.
One can also buy good second-hand fridges.
Mikidaad Matovu of MMR Ramuse Enterprises in Katwe, says second-hand fridges are sometimes better than new ones that are duplicated.
Matovu said they imported their fridges from Britain, adding that they are durable with a hard body. Double door mini fridges cost about sh300,000. Freezers cost between sh250,000 and sh700,000. Ramuse Enterprises offers a one-month warranty.
