NOT even a surprise Africa Championship gold for Moses Kipsiro in the 10000m that he rarely runs has convinced him to switch from his favourite 5000m.

Kipsiro who won bronze in his 5000m race at the same championship in Mauritius, entered the 10000m contest mainly to help compatriot Isaac Kiprop take on Kenyan and Ethiopian opposition. He ended up stealing the show.

“No, no. I will concentrate on the 5000m and 3000m. I know what I am targeting,” Kipsiro said when asked if he will now concentrate on the 10000m.

“Kipsiro had been blocked by the Kenyans in the 5000m which denied him gold, so I put him in the 10000m to protect Kiprop. But Kiprop had a problem and was even overlapped, so Kipsiro remained ahead and won,” coach Faustino Kiwa said.

Kipsiro will however first represent Africa in the 10000m race at the World Cup in Athens, Greece next month before he concentrates on his preferred 3000m and 5000m races.

Annette Kabasindi (javelin) and Justin Bayigga (100,200,400m) also competed but fell out early.
