QUESTION: Is Winnie the only woman in your home?
Answer: At the moment yes, although I have children from an earlier relationship.

Was Ssasira (Winnie’s song about a mistress who asks a man for equal attention with his wife) about you?
Well, it is almost true. However, it has some exaggerations. The fact is when I met Winnie, I was living with someone, but not really emotionally committed to anyone. Winnie slowly took over my life and many of things started changing.

Does she always sing about what goes on in your life?
Not really. The only song that ever came near was Ssasira.

What is it about Winnie that made you leave your old love?
I guess it was love at first sight! The first time I saw her, I was so attracted to her that I was even afraid of approaching her. But, as fate would have it, she asked me for a lift.

Did you strike immediately?
Yeah. I talked to her and I didn’t leave without making a statement of some kind. I bought her a teddy bear and an apple. I guess that did the magic because she later told me she had told friends that the person who would buy her the first teddy bear would be the one to win her over.

So, what is your next step?
We are definitely going to get married. If it is not later this year, it should be not later than mid next year.

Does working together affect your relationship?
I consider it very healthy because of what we mean to each other. At work, it is strictly business. She handles the accounts and when she asks me to account for my expenditure, she does it as a professional.

Does she ever sing for you at home?
Oh yeah. From the first time we met she has been singing for me. However, she usually sings other people’s songs.

Do you like it?
I love it. When she sings, I know she is happy because she only sings when she is in a good mood.

What kind of cook is Winnie?
She is better than so many chefs I know. She prepares tilapia in a unique way. I don’t really know how she does it, but it is amazing!

What is your favourite Winnie Munyenga song?
Ssasira (laughs)

How do you cope with the demands of her career as an artiste?
I think dating a musician takes extra commitment. I’m still struggling to cope with the demands of her music career. But when you love someone, you have to support her.

Why do you say so?
She has a lot of fans that sometimes come and completely take over. Then there are the upcountry shows. I sometimes have to abandon work and drive her there. If I don’t, I have to stay home and cook as well as take care of Marcus. Either way, it is hard on me.

You don’t sound so enthusiastic, are you supportive?
I give her all the support she needs. I also advise her on her songs and her dress code. I noticed that fans like seeing her in short skirts.

Do her male fans bother you?
Yes! You can never know what they really want. It is hard to differentiate between a fan and a person who is interested in Winnie romantically.

What do you like and hate most about your woman?
When I first saw Winnie, it was her big lovely eyes and her great legs that drew me to her. But I later found out she is an intelligent person with business acumen. What I find rather unsettling about her is her stubbornness. If she sets her mind on doing something, even when it is obvious she is going to hit a dead end, no one can change her mind.

Was Ssasira about a real life experience?
It is not exactly about an individual. The message reflects what is happening in most homes where men have mistresses, but spend a lot of time with their wives. Men deceive women with excuses of rushing to meetings. Fortunately, the song helped my relationship. We are now able to avoid mistakes.

Rumour has it that you grabbed Chris from another woman?
Laughs. I did not grab him from anyone. He proposed to me and told me he was not married and wanted me to be his wife. It was after sometime that I accepted his proposal. He first saw me at Progressive Secondary School, where I had gone to visit someone. One of his colleagues asked him whether he wanted my contact and he gave it to him. He later looked for me. We first became friends and it took us almost a year to become romantically involved.

Would you be comfortable with a co-wife?
It is the order of the day for men to have mistresses. I would not mind as long as he introduces her to me.. It hurts for a man to have mistresses and not tell his spouse. I believe a normal man cannot have one woman. Those who pretend do are liars.

What advice would you give to girls seeking men for marriage?
They should be strict and not fall in love before studying the men. They should also be patient.

What is your favourite fashion?
I like wearing clothes that bring out my curves. I wear tight clothes, especially hipsters.

I saw a picture of you in the newspapers showing your underwear. How did you feel about it?
Of course, I felt bad. That picture really worked up my nerves.
What did Chris say about it?
He did not say anything about it because he knew the photographer had gone down to take it.

Does Chris ever comment about your eyes?
He likes every thing about me, especially the woman in me.
The first time he saw me he fell for my body because he was behind me; but when he saw my eyes he was like ‘oh! My God!’ He normally says, they are killer eyes; they drive him crazy.

What do you use on your skin?
I use ‘Clear and Smooth’. I also do facials after a fortnight.

How do you keep the sparks in your love?
We try not to quarrel at home, make romantic trips, dinners and sometimes visit friends. I also love singing for him. I often do it when we are driving. He says “I like this song” and I say “let me sing it for you”.

Does he help you cook or wash at home?
Not so often, but on Sunday, he makes chapatti, eggs and sausages. He does not wash, but he irons.

Do you get calls from fans at night?
I do and although it bothers me, I cannot abuse them. I always make it clear to them that I am married, but I don’t know why they keep on calling me. It is hard to explain to Chris that I have been answering a call from a fan.
