Bishop Cyprian Kizito Lwanga of Kasana-Luweero, the new archbishop of Kampala Archdiocese, will be installed on September 30 to replace emmanuel Cardinal Wamala, who has served for 18 years, according to the Rev. Fr. Lawrence Kibalama.
Kibalama, in his homily during a holy mass at the Sacred Heart Cathedral in Lubaga yesterday, urged Christians to prepare to receive their new archbishop in a highly dignified manner.
He requested the Christians to join him in thanking the Cardinal for guiding them with wisdom during his tenure.
He asked the Christians to pray for the new Archbishop so that he also leads and guides them well.
Kibalama called upon Christians to understand the meaning of the Holy Eucharist, which he said was the core of the Catholic Church.
He warned against drunkenness, which he said had forced many people into evil.
He condemned child sacrifice, which has become common in Uganda.
Pope Benedict XVI appointed Lwanga.
Wamala led the early morning holy mass in which he announced his retirement to the Christians and hailed them for making his work easy by supporting him during his term.
Wamala, who has been the Archbishop since August 15, 1980, will be 80 years old in December.
Since the appointment of Kizito was announced on Saturday, Wamala became the Apostolic Administrator of Kampala Archdiocese until his successor is installed on September 30.
