EASTERN are seeking divine intervention in their pursuit of a maiden inter regional championship title.
The only team chasing the elusive title since the event started in 1988, face defending champions Northern, Western and Buganda at the Uganda Golf Club course, Kitante this weekend.
Northern have seven wins behind the nine-time record champions Western and Buganda with two titles.
Eastern pulled off their best performance in a long time by finishing second overall last year.
This time round, Eastern team coordinator Johnson Omolo, said they are relying on God and luck. “We are leaving it to God, we have tried to win for so many years, it is a difficult situation,†Omolo explained.
The team has a religious personality in Bishop John Obokech to lead prayers for better fortunes.
“He will lead us through prayers before the tee off, we need to win this time.â€
Obokech, playing off handicap 7, is leader of the Charismatic Church of God based in Nakasero.
Omolo (h/c 15) is also on the team along with Dodia Akash (h/c 3), Daniel Kagwe (h/c 4), Eva Okatch (h/c 9) and Jyotsna Ruparelia.
Eastern have the tough challenge of Northern led by seasoned player John Waigo and former national champion Stephen Birungi to contend with.
