JOHN Atwine, the man suspected to have gunned down Robinah Kiyingi, never made telephone calls to Dr. Aggrey Kiyingi, according to availed telephone print-outs, court heard yesterday.

The court yesterday scrutinised the telephone print-outs of the suspects made from June 1, 2005 until sometime after the murder of Robinah Kiyingi. Dr. Kiyingi is charged with Charles Berwanaho and Bob Mugisha over the July 2005 murder of his wife.

Police witnesses earlier told court that Atwine used a private pay phone, 041 541525 in Wandegeya to call Dr. Kiyingi while he was with the Police. They said later, Atwine told them that he called Kiyingi to ask for the balance on his payment.

However, during cross-examination, detective Fred Simon Saakwa, who analysed the print-out, said 041 541525 was not reflected on Kiyingi’s mobile phone print-out.

Saakwa also said the same number (041 541525) was also not reflected on the calls received on the cell phone of Atwine’s friend, Saada, on the same day. Saada testified in court that Atwine called her when she was with detectives at CID headquarters.

She and some Police witnesses testified that when Atwine called her, she switched the phone to hands free so that everyone could hear what he was saying.

Saakwa also told court that the print-outs of Berwanaho’s phone do not show that he called Kiyingi after the murder. During her testimony, Saada said Atwine informed her that immediately after the murder, Berwanaho called Kiyingi.
