THE British Broadcasting Service (BBC) has unveiled a Swahili football programme featuring the English Premier League for its listeners in East and Central Africa.

BBC Ulimwengu Wa Soka (BBC World Of Football) programme went on air on the opening day of the English top soccer event on Saturday.

A live commentary of the match between Arsenal and Aston Villa that ended 1-1 at the former’s Emirates stadium set the programme rolling.

The programme with in-depth information, is available in East and Central Africa on Short Wave on 11705 kHz.

In a dispatch from London, the head of BBC Swahili service Tido Mhando said the new innovation was a result of the popularity of the Premier ship in Africa.

“Ulimwengu Wa Soka is an opportunity for BBC Swahili to connect with its audience and offer them the full excitement of the tournament in their own language,” said Mhando.
