What a judgement!

SIR — Prof Semakula Kiwanuka’s analysis of the relationship between Makerere University and its Nakawa-based business school was spot-on. I must thank him for the plain explanation. What is surprising is how a judge could have ruled otherwise. I hope the judgment is overturned by a higher court, but expect even more.

Judgments which are clearly against commonsense and the law should also be reviewed by the Judicial Commission and the people who make them reprimanded.

Judges are custodians of the law but we lesser mortals also notice when a ruling does not seem to add up. The laws are written in English and we also read them. Hiding in legal quicksand to make suspect rulings only undermines the public confidence in the judiciary. I hope the Principal Judge and Chief Justice take notice.
