AN Independent candidate for Namutumba district Woman MP seat has vowed to end the rampant practice of using school-going children as scarecrows in rice fields.
Florence Mutyabule, who was winding up her campaigns in Namutumba trading centre on Thursday, said there were better ways to scare off birds than using children eligible for free education.
“As a teacher and minister of education in the Kyabazinga’s government, I will see to it that no child stays home to chase birds from rice gardens. Farmers will be trained on effective construction of scarecrows other than improvising with children,†she said.
Her only rival and the NRM candidate, Lydia Kibwika, said she knows all the corners of Busiki, the only county in the district, hence each and every local’s problem.
Kibwika told a gathering in Bulange on the same day that her service to Busiki at various political levels could show her capability.
Kibwika, the Magada sub-county councillor, said she had lobbied for the re-surfacing of marram roads and would do more if she wins today’s elections.
