Kayondo out LYANTONDE The Electoral Commission (EC) has disqualified Vincent Kayondo as LC5 chairperson candidate of newly-created Lyantonde district. EC chairperson Dr. Badru Kiggundu said yesterday in a statement, “The EC informs the people of Lyantonde district that Mr. Vincent Kayondo has been disqualified from contesting for the post of district chairperson, due to failure to meet the minimum academic requirements as required by law.â€
Land meet KITGUM The LC5 chairpersons of the four Acholi districts and their executives on Saturday held a meeting to prepare for a joint council meeting to discuss land issues and dismantling of IDP camps. Kitgum district chief John Komakech on Sunday said they would meet on September 26 in Gulu to discuss the return of IDPs to their homes and formation of the Acholi development agency. The Gulu LC5 chairman Norbert Mao is championing the joint effort.
Lubyayi quits MASAKA Bukomansimbi MP Iddi Lubyayi Kisiki has abandoned the NRM party, citing discontent and witch-hunting by NRM bigwigs. He, however, said he had not yet chosen which party to join, saying he was still studying the available options to choose the best way forward. Addressing a press conference on Friday, Lubyayi said he had been a good mobiliser for the Movement. Even after contesting as an independent, he remained their friend but the bigwigs dragged him to court, he said.
