OPPONENTS and supporters of the Bakonzo/Bamba Obusinga Bwa Rwenzururu (Rwenzururu cultural institution), have welcomed a report made by the ministerial committee appointed by the president to probe the issue, reports John Thawite.
In a meeting at Buhikira Royal Palace on Friday, the retired South Rwenzori Diocesan Bishop, the Rt. Rev. Zebedee Kahangwa Masereka and Yolamu Mulima, who represent the anti and pro- Obuzinga groups respectively, said both sides had accepted the report and wanted the Government to implement it as it is.
The president in April last year appointed a four-member committee led by public service minister Henry Kajura to probe the controversy surrounding the institution. The commission recommended the establishment of the Rwenzururu cultural institution and a truth and reconciliation committee to address the matter.
The inter-ministerial report also indicates that other ethnic tribes in the region, which may feel they want to have a cultural leader, may do so.
