For a comfortable sleep, one needs bed sheets, but how’s one to choose bed sheets that will give the bedroom a soothing environment?
From history, it is not known when bed sheets were first used. However, www.madehow.com supposes that the first bed sheets were linen. Linen is perfect for bed sheeting because it is softer to the touch than cotton and becomes more lustrous with use. Because the process of producing linen is laborious, it is very dear. A pair of linen bed sheets will set you back sh60,000 at Uchumi Supermarket but the comfort reward worth every cent.
The most common fabric for bed sheets has been cotton since the 19th Century. Cotton sheeting is cheap and easy to obtain. However, they also shrink very often and can also form unpleasant balls of fabric on the surface.
For pre-packaged bed sheets, you may go for those that are labelled with ‘Fitted sheet’ on the packaging. A fitted sheet has an elastic edge around for easy fitting over the mattress, thus saves time when laying the bed. Fitted sheets are rare downtown, but in supermarkets around town, they go for between sh30,000 and sh60,000.
For the pre-packaged bed sheets, make sure there are enough pillow case to meet your needs. Some sets come with only one pillow case, yet they are meant for twin beds. Only the Arams VIP comes with four pillow sets and it comes in bold brilliant florals. The Aramis VIP set costs sh32,400 at Biplous on Kampala Road. If you are only after a good bed sheet, just like the average Kampala person is; look out for Nytil bed sheets labelled 50% cotton, 50% polyester. The best bargains for these are all to be found at Uchumi.
Choosing a bed sheet ultimately boils down to the person’s taste. But the bottom line is, treat yourself to the best you can afford.
