This is undoubtedly Bobi Wine’s year. The ‘bad boy’ of local music leads the nomination pack at this year’s Pearl of Africa Music (PAM) Awards with seven nominations.

This is undoubtedly Bobi Wine’s year. The ‘bad boy’ of local music leads the nomination pack at this year’s Pearl of Africa Music (PAM) Awards with seven nominations. This is the highest number of nominations for a single artiste in the four-year history of the awards.
The nominations were released by Ernst & Young on Thursday at Ange Mystique. The nominees drawn from 37 categories were generated from forms filled out by registered artistes and media houses in East Africa. The fourth PAM Awards gala will take place on October 28 at Lugogo Cricket Oval.
But Wine was not the only man with a reason to smile. Dream Girls, Rocky Giant, Phina Mugerwa, DJ Languna and Gatimo, Grace & Paragon were rightfully recognised. Qute Kaye is not a rapper but he appears in the best hip-hop artiste/group list.

Missed out:
New teeming talent Priscilla Kalibala and Bella were absent as were Kid Fox, Able 4, Rachael, Engineer Kateregga, Catherine Kusasira, Stecia Mayanja and East World.

Underrated:
Mega Dee, Peter Miles, Ngoni and Lady Mariam were under-represented. Clearly, they could have scooped more nominations.

Overrated:
Lady Aisha, Menton Krono and Roots Rockaz.
Rocky Giant has struggled to get to where he is through his Bongoflava stuff, which falls under hip-hop. For him, appearing twice was beyond his wildest dreams.
Phina Mugerwa has always wanted to be recognised.
After downsizing to just females, the Obsessions are better musicians and the results are evident: two nominations.

Rating:

Bobi Wine — 7;
Mesach Semakula — 5;
Jose Chameleone — 4;
Iryn Namubiru — 4 and
Bebe Cool — 3.
