THE chairman of the Banyankole Cultural Foundation has blasted members of the Ankole Cultural Trust who are agitating for the return of the Ankole kingship.

Nkensi Nyakimwe said there was a lot to do than reinstating the Ankole Kingdom.
He said, “We have a lot of reasons why we are rejecting the return of the kingdom because many people who experienced its leadership saw no use.”

He said the kingship practised a lot of things which were humiliating to Banyankole.

Nyakimwe said, “We have rejected their proposal because this is only to increase government expenses on palaces.”
He added, “Our rejection is not based on tribe but it’s because we traced for the goodness of the kingship but we could not find any.”

He asked Prince John Barigye to free squatters by selling land to them or to the Government. “Some people in Sheema are squatters. We would be happy if he sells the land to make people happy,” he said.
