SIR — I am grateful to the muslim leaders in Uganda for exhibiting a great sense of maturity and unity at this moment of shame! When I heard the submissions of Sheikh Abdul Qadir Mbogo to the commission of inquiry into the robbery of muslim properties I was worried that the attention of muslims was going to be diverted and degenerate into something similar to the Mulumba-Kamulegaya wrangles of the ‘80s.
but thank Allah, muslims are now focused and really know what needs to be done and said about the once much feared UMSC.
As one of the Muslim leaders, muslims expected Mbogo to help them recover their lost properties.
The confessions and evidence of the treasurer, Mr Adnan Koire, Hassan Bassajjabalaba himself and the resignation of Dr Idris Kasene must have made Mbogo very emotional.
The generation of Mbogo is that of great muslims who paid a very high price to elevate Islam where it is now in Uganda. It is a pity if this legacy is not preserved by Muslims we look to for guidance.
