Mbarara’s audiences are mean when it comes to applauding any performance. And when they applaud your performance, it means that you are doing extremely well.

Lady Mariam Namukasa is among those who were recently applauded. She has become a household name because of her hit, Tindatiine. She is among the leading artistes in western Uganda.

Lady Mariam launched her debut album last Saturday at Agip Motel, Mbarara. When she stepped on stage at 11:00pm, wrapped in Ankole traditional dress, her fans went into a frenzy.

Lady Mariam first sang Yasemera and Kitaguriro, tracks off her album that worked up the fans, before singing the title track Tindatiine that made everyone stand up and dance. Fans threw money at her like it was burning their pockets and sang along until she finished.

There were many talented ladies in Mbarara who performed at the launch and fired up the enthusiastic fans with their new songs.

Sister Charity is another loved female artiste gifted with a natural good voice, but her problem is lack of exposure. Her two hits, Grade and Gold, though old are still loved in Mbarara.

Another song that fired up revellers were Kankwesasire by Agnes and Faridah. The track is in Runyankole with a touch of Afro-beat.

Moreen is another hot singer in Mbarara. Her track, Ai Mawe is creatively done. The track is danceable and has a traditional touch that is well blended with modern instruments.

Mbarara-based gospel singer Engineer Martin also put up a spirited show. Others were Nice Yesigye with her Abakyala that set the crowds on ‘fire’. Queen Julie with her Tokwatakwata was also entertaining.
