MUFTI Sheikh Shaban Mubajje has asked political parties to avoid interfering in matters of religious organisations.

“As a religious organisation, we are never interested in getting involved in politics. We are always happy when politics takes its own route. So we also expect political parties to stay out of any matter in our organisations,” Mubajje said.

He made the remarks on Wednesday at his office in Old Kampala, while meeting 12 political party heads under The Political Parties Platform (TPP). TPP chief Emmanuel Tumisiime led the political leaders.

Mubajje said, “We only support and entertain complaints from political parties when their rights, freedom and democracy are being violated.” He commended the parties for uniting, saying it was the only way they could be blessed and become successful.

Tumisiime appealed to the Government to be more proactive in protecting the interests of Ugandans.
