OMUKAMA Solomon Iguru of Bunyoro-Kitara Kingdom has nominated a delegation of three officials to the Uganda Government petroleum and Gas Policy making exercise.

Iguru nominated the three in response to the government request for a delegation to represent him at the negotiations that have been going on for about a month.

The officials are the kingdom’s oil and industry minister, George Kyaligonza, the Omukama’s principal private secretary, Yolamu Nsamba and his press secretary, Henry Ford Miirima.

Iguru announced the nominations on September 5 at his palace in Hoima district.

He said the representatives should press for the kingdom’s fair share – both as the owner of the land on which the oil wells are located and where drilling is going on, and also for a fair share for the kingdom as the place where the oil is discovered.

A statement from the kingdom said Iguru was aware of what the Energy Ministry Permanent Secretary told the Rukurato (parliament), that the kingdom has not been provided for in the Constitution.

Iguru also told the delegation to find out from foreign embassies of oil producing countries, how cultural institutions have been awarded shares from the oil.

The statement said the ministry has also announced that a meeting with Iguru’s delegation will be held on September 25. It said the government has also invited the LC5 chairpersons of the four oil districts of Bunyoro to meet with the petroleum and gas policy making body.

The districts are Hoima, Kibaale, Masindi and Buliisa.
