THE education ministry has closed Kings’ Primary School, Seguku in Wakiso district, over forgery of an operating licence by the proprietor.

The third term for schools begins on Monday.

The proprietor, identified as Jennifer Kaswarra, had reportedly gone into hiding.

In a September 5 letter, the assistant commissioner for primary education, Ssemuwemba Bulondo, said, “Kings School LTD/Kings School Seguku is neither licensed nor registered with this ministry. The registration number ME/P/22/2215 belongs to a school called Zigoti Standard Primary School, Mubende district. This was its (Zigoti’s) license authorising the school to exist for just one year.”

The letter addressed to the assistant Inspector General of Police/CID, was also copied to the Wakiso district education officer (DEO) and the Police in Kampala.

It also instructed the DEO to inspect the school and take action, which, according to sources, was done.

Wakiso inspector of schools Sempijja Lwanga and DEO Aida Lubwama effected the closure on Friday.

“There have been complaints from several people, including the permanent secretary, that the school is illegal. But we have failed to meet the headteacher and her deputies,” Lwanga said.

He said they had summoned the school heads to appear before them on Monday.

He said the closure would be temporary, pending investigations.

The school, located on Entebbe Road, had about 500 pupils. Founded in 2004, it had two separate campuses; one for lower primary and another for upper primary.

A source from the ministry said Kaswarra, who is also the headteacher, had been involved in the duplication of the school’s land titles.
