THE East African Business Council (EABC) fully supports Rwanda’s bid to join the East African Community, Abid Alam, the EABC chairman, said on Tuesday.

Alam who is leading the EABC delegation in Kigali, was speaking at a meeting with Rwanda’s President Paul Kagame at Urugwiro Village.

The EABC delegation is on a fact-finding tour to assess the progress of Rwanda’s private sector.

The delegation signed a protocol with the Rwandan Private Sector Federation to address and provide solutions to the challenges inherent in the economic integration.

Alam said EABC was eager to resolve any obstacles within the private sector in order to facilitate the ongoing politicalprocess that will see Rwanda and Burundi join the EAC. He expressed appreciation for the EABC willingness to see for themselves the steps Rwanda has taken to develop the private sector to create a conducive investment climate.

Kagame said the formal membership process should note the important natural linkages that exist between the people of the region in terms of friendship and trade.
