KAMPALA Amateur Volleyball Club (KAVC) men’s team left for Rwanda yesterday morning to compete in the annual Rutsindura Memorial International tournament at Butare University this weekend.

A team of 12 players and officials left by road in the wee hours of the day.

The only Ugandan representatives are expected to compete against teams from Burundi and the host clubs.

KAVC men, whose women team pulled out after most of their student players failed to secure releases from their institutions, will fight to accomplish the unfinished duty at the second edition last year.

In the second edition of the event in memory of volleyball officials who died in the 1994 genocide, both KAVC men and women fell to University of Rwanda in the finals.

“The team left by road today (yesterday) morning and will be making their third appearance since the inauguration of the Butare invitational tournament in 2004,” KAVC’s Mofaht Masaba said.

Meanwhile, Citystars volleyball club will seek to beat Uganda Christian University Deacons in a bid to take up the only remaining play-off slot when they clash at Nsambya today. MUBS will play against Cobap.
