A MEDICAL doctor operating a private clinic in Bwaise, a city suburb, was yesterday charged with procuring an abortion.
Dr. Denis Katungi denied the charge before buganda Road Court Magistrate Susan Kanyange.

He was released on bail.

Court heard that after Junior Bangirana allegedly made pregnant a 17-year-old girl, he took her to Katungi’s clinic to secure an abortion.

The prosecution alleges that Bangirana denied responsibility, saying he could not look after the baby and opted for an abortion.

Bangirana has not been charged yet with the alleged defilement. The two reportedly met in Nsambya, where the girl was a shop attendant.

Court heard that after the alleged abortion, Bangirana chased the victim away. She later reported the matter to her uncle.

Prosecutor Robert Mackay said inquiries into the case were complete adding that they were ready to proceed with the trial.
