THE Police in Kibaale district demand a lot of money from the public to settle cases outside court, the internal affairs state minister has said.
Matia Kasaija (below) lashed out at the Police Force, describing it as unrepentant as far as corruption is concerned.
“I have been receiving reports that the Police in Kibaale have been extorting money from people to close their case files,” Kasaija said.
He was speaking at the 25th anniversary celebrations of the International Peace for the Rwenzori Region at the Uganda Rural Development and Training Centre in Kagadi town on Tuesday.
Kasaija said the Government would show zero tolerance to corruption in all its departments.
“We shall not leave any stone unturned in the fight against corruption. I am warning my Police personnel to stop the practice or else they lose their jobs,” Kasaija warned.
Early this month, Police chief Maj. Gen. Kale Kayihura suspended the Kibaale district traffic officer and the CID chief over corruption.
