KAIZER Chiefs have finally passed David Obua fit for competitive football, and much to the relief of the Uganda Cranes.

Chiefs head coach Ernest Middendorp stated on Thursday that the lanky midfielder had successfully gone through two weeks of intensive training without a lapse from his inflated hamstring injury.

And ahead of Chiefs Premier Soccer League fixture against Golden Arrows on Sunday, Middendorp said: “I have been informed by the medical staff that we should have Obua available for selection on Sunday afternoon.”

The Amakhosi star had early this month been ruled out of the Cranes’ trip to Niamey by the club doctors, who felt he needed a minimum of three weeks to recover from his injury.

But Middendorp added: “After being treated for two weeks David has responded well to the treatment and is back on his feet again.”

“He has been training with the team for the past week. He has participated in all our training sessions and has not had any relapse of the injury which is a good sign,” said Middendorp.

Meanwhile, Nigeria coach Austin Eguavoen has called up Jay Jay Okocha for next month’s African Nations Cup Group Three qualifier against Lesotho.

The Qatar-based player will replace Stephen Makinwa, who is injured for the match October 7.
