Ssekandi, come back to earth!

SIR — I wish to comment on Speaker Edward Ssekandi’s article “Sh60m mps’ cars modest”.

SIR — I wish to comment on Speaker Edward Ssekandi’s article “Sh60m mps’ cars modest”.

To whom is it modest? It may sound modest to him but to peasants in the countryside this kind of money is unheard of. The mps want to pocket a cool sh60m and spend it without accounting for a single penny.

Acording to Ssekandi, how the mps will spend the money is none of his business! He goes ahead to compare Uganda with Kenya and Tanzania whose economies are far healthier.

The speaker should be realistic and guide the house through issues that build the nation other than dwelling on self-seeking ventures. How can intelligent collective minds in parliament push for a sh60m car scheme for more than 300 people each in a country wallowing in abject poverty?

The administration cost of government is shooting through the roof and here is Ssekandi lecturing us how sh60m is a modest figure. I support the NRM government but this one is driving me crazy. If the NRM mps don’t wake up it could be a self-trap. The opposition will take them on and all the taxpayers will be on their side! How many life-saving drugs can that kind of money buy?
