COURT has dismissed with costs an election petition in which the Luweero district DP chairman sued the Electoral Commission (EC) for printing on the ballot papers DP’s ‘hoe’ symbol against his portrait.
Erasto Kibirango said the DP symbol caused him to lose the Bamunanika LC5 councillor’s seat since he had contested as an independent with a ‘Radio’ as his preferred symbol.
He argued that the EC portrayed him as a DP-sponsored candidate.
Kibirango, who lost to NRM’s Jonathan Kasule, had through lawyers Kasumba and Co. Advocates petitioned the EC to nullify the poll results, saying the DP symbol biased voters in favour of his opponent.
Luweero Chief Magistrate Silver Okullu dismissed the petition on Friday for lack of prosecution.
