IGANGA veterinary officer Dr. Xavier Magirigi yesterday failed to account for sh111m.

IGANGA veterinary officer Dr. Xavier Magirigi yesterday failed to account for sh111m.

Paul Kiwuuwa reports that the money was meant for the Cattle Restocking Project (CRP) in the financial year 2000/2001.

Appearing before the parliamentary local government accounts committee, Magirigi failed to produce letters bearing photographs of applicants for the animals received during the CRP.

The committee, chaired by David Ringe Chan, ordered Magirigi to produce the documents or he would be handed over to the CID chief in Iganga, Matthew Obel, who attended the meeting.

“Sh111m was disbursed to you and records indicate you used sh38m to buy 176 head off cattle.

however, no proper records showing distribution of the animals were made available during the audit,” Ringe said.

Alex Byarugaba (Isingoro North) said, “How did you account for the balance of sh73m after purchasing 176 head of cattle? we want the break down.”

MPs queried cattle drugs worth sh10m not used at the end of the exercise, saying they may have expired and it was wastage of taxpayers’ money.
