Remember Ben Phiri (right), that towering Zambian comedian who, in the recent past made a fortune flying into the country especially around Independence Day and aping President Yoweri Museveni's speech and every mannerism? The burly funnyman earlier this week called us to help him get a message through to “His Excellency†that he was diagnosed with cancer and apparently recommended for immediate medical attention but is too broke to foot his bills. So, being the dutiful scribes we are, we are hereby imploring His Excellency to come to the rescue of his biggest admirer and the man who can mimic him better than anyone we ever knew.
Sengo for multi-million club
London-based Ugandan international music promoter Yunus Sengo might be a controversial man but one thing is for sure, his business savvy is unquestionable. Sengo, who owns several businesses and investments in London, has been known more for driving luxurious vehicles in Uganda than solid investments. Now, we hear, he has bought over 1.5 acres of land in Kasanga, a Kampala suburb, near a mosque, where he intends to construct a sprawling multi-million dollar leisure/sports club. We hear Sengo is the man behind those rumoured visits by international footballers Thierry Henry, Ronaldhinho and David Beckham. We hear he is working in collaboration with Pepsi and UNAID to bring the stars, who will raise funds for the internally displaced people.
Tusker Project Fame on UBC
The first heat show for Tusker Project Fame, East Africa's premier reality TV show, is on this Sunday. The heat shows, to be screened on UBC TV at 7:00pm every Sunday for four weeks, will show auditions in Kenya Uganda and Tanzania and how far the shotlisting process has gone. They will also show which Ugandan contestants will be making it to the list of the final 12 contestants at a gala launch slated for October 29 in Nairobi. The 12 finalists will make it into the Project Fame Academy and compete to get the winner, live on TV.
Bebe Cool scared of women
After his stint in Kitala Prison, where he was remanded alleged to for groping a female police officer's breasts, singer Bebe Cool has since been petrified by female fans. He must have learnt to 'Never Trust No People (read women)' as his award-winning song goes. At Steak Out's Super Tuesday this week, Cool was not flattered but rather irritated by the amount of attention and offers of hugs he got from his female fans who sought to welcome him back from prison. He shrugged them all off, assuring them he did not know any of them: "One hug and you will frame me for sexual assault. Leave me alone!" he bellowed sternly. Snoops later eavesdropped on a conversation in which the singer was telling a friend that with all the schemers around town ready to get their hands on his money he was not about to take any more chances.
