NAKASONGOLA district officials on Thursday failed to account for sh115m.
The parliamentary local government accounts committee chaired by Geoffrey Ekanya (Tororo) charged the chief administrative officer, Chrizestom Kayise, and two others sh2m for failure to produce verification payment vouchers and audited cashbooks for the financial year 2000/2001.
“Sh2m will be deducted from salaries of Kayise, the chief financial officer, Edith Kiregga and chief internal auditor David Katamba to cater for the Auditor Generals officials who have to go back to Nakasonglola to verify the documents. The government is unable to budget for auditors to go for re-auditing,” Ekanya said.
The MPs were amused when Kiregga and katamba confessed that they had lost the management letter from the Auditor General and had failed to bring the vouchers.
Kayise was ordered to pay sh1.4m that was not reflected in the cash books. The MPs also queried sh65m that lacked supporting expenditure vouchers.
