By Chris Kiwawulo & Patrick Jaramogi A MOBILE traffic Police officer, Martin Ahimbise, has been detained at the Central Police Station for shooting at a UPDF officer. Ahimbise reportedly shot at Capt. Naboth Mugume, a Military Police operations officer on Thursday. The incident occurred at Bwaise trading centre after the latter reportedly refused to heed traffic officers’ directives. Mugume, who was shot in the stomach, lost consciousness and was rushed to Mulago Hospital. The hospital spokesperson, Eliphaz Ssekabira, yesterday said Mugume had regained consciousness. He said Mugume was operated and transferred to the Intensive Care Unit on Thursday. “His blood pressure is still low, but his condition is not threatening,†Ssekabira said. Kampala police chief, Grace Turyagumanawe (right), said Ahimbise would be prosecuted. Kawempe Division Police commander Joseph Musobya said Mugume flouted traffic rules and disobeyed traffic officers who were guiding traffic at the Kawempe - Bwaise Road junction. “It was during the scuffle that the traffic officers alerted the patrol officers who intervened. In the course of executing their duties, he shot him,†Musobya said. Eyewitnesses said following the scuffle, military policemen besieged Kawempe Police Station for some hours and left after a crisis meeting chaired by the Kampala CID chief, Mohammed Atepo, was held. They said Mugume overtook several vehicles using a wrong lane, prompting a traffic officer to stop him. Mugume was travelling to Soroti. Ends
