NATIONAL Council of Sports (NCS) has proposed a partnership with the sports scribes’ body USPA to crown Uganda’s best annually.

USPA has since 1974 rewarded excellent sportsmen, something NCS general secretary Jasper Aligawesa said should be complimented.

He congratulated the newly elected USPA executive led by Douglas Mazune, and suggested a merger.

“As a sports body we should have been the ones to reward sportsmen but since USPA is already doing it we cannot duplicate it. Maybe we should come in and contribute funds,” Aligawesa said.

The sportsman-of-the-year award is usually held in March each year.
Mazune is due to meet Aligawesa to introduce his executive to sports state minister Charles Bakkabulindi.
The minister is new USPA patron.

“We shall discuss it in our executive before we meet NCS,” USPA boss Mazune said yesterday.
