PRESIDENT Yoweri Museveni has hailed Gulu archbishop John Baptist Odama and the Catholic Church for being good samaritans to people in the north.

He said this during the ordination of Dr. Sabino Odoki Ocan the Gulu archdiocese auxiliary bishop, on Saturday at St. Phillips cathedral.
Museveni said he was ready to work with the institution to transform the people from spiritual and material backwardness to modernity.

The function was presided over by Odama, assisted by the Papal nuncio, Christopher Pierre and Emmanuel Cardinal Wamala.

The ceremony almost turned political when Forum for Democratic Change president Dr. Kiiza Besigye was recognised. The excited crowd drummed, ululated and cheered as Besigye stood to greet the people.

In a speech read by vice-president Prof. Gilbert Bukenya, museveni said, “You have ordained the right person at the right time to lead the people from the bondage of suffering to new life. Odoki is a hardworking man with a development-focused mind and in-feelings for the people like Odama.

We shall partner with him to transform the people in the north to forget about the pangas they know of. We shall transform the people in the north from material and spiritual backwardness to modernity,” he added.
