CATHOLIC bishops from northern Uganda have hailed President Yoweri Museveni’s decision to travel to Juba to be part of the peace talks.

A statement from Vice- President Prof. Gilbert Bukenya’s office quoted the bishops as saying the trip showed that Museveni was genuinely concerned about the plight of the people of northern Uganda.

It said the Archbishop of Gulu, John Baptist Odama, met Bukenya on Monday, at his Holy Rosary residence.

Present at the meeting was Auxilliary Bishop of Gulu Archdiocese Sabino Ocan Odoki and officials from Caritas, a Catholic NGO.

The bishops and the officials from Caritas urged the Government to avail local leaders with copies of the northern recovery programme.
They said this would enable stakeholders involved in reconstruction and resettlement activities avoid duplication of services and quicken the process.

“We are grateful that the president travelled to Juba. It shows how genuine he is for peace. We shall support government efforts and work together to develop northern Uganda,” Odama was quoted as saying.
