What better present could our Muslim brethren have got on Idd El-Fitri than the re-opening of Bat Valley Theatre with a refreshing family drama!
Empuuna Malungu, is a drama on betrayal, faith and greed as the family head chooses to run off with another woman. But as misfortune turns to fortune for the family, he returns; asking his ex-wife to forgive him.
Tucker (Abbey Mukiibi) controls many lives. His obsessions dominate his family. He runs his mother down, beats his father and attempts to murder his brother — all for money.
Afri-talent has returned as a team after their sojourn in the wilderness. All those jolly faces (Sensuwa Bwanika, Ruth Kalibbala, Eva Kiweweesi and Annet Namakula) bring back those good old days in this age of pop acting.
The production runs on time, reducing the exploration of our inner fears. If the team managing the lighting can only get it right, it will make it a more tense drama.
This is no occasion to make great theatre claims of Mariam Ndagire, but perhaps this is her most honest piece.
The re-opening of the now more comfortable hall notwithstanding, when is Mariam Ndagire and her team bringing us a new play?
Gauging from revellers at the show, it is better to book your tickets in advance.
