HIGH demand for foodstuffs in southern Sudan has cut supplies to Kampala’s major markets, pushing prices up, a survey has shown.

HIGH demand for foodstuffs in southern Sudan has cut supplies to Kampala’s major markets, pushing prices up, a survey has shown.
Southern Sudan is experiencing food shortage due to drought and relies on Ugandan produce, creating ready market for local traders.
Surveys carried out in Nakasero, Nakawa, St. Balikuddembe and Nateete markets, showed price increments for maize, beans, rice, millet and maize flour.
A kilogramme of beans is up to sh1,300 from sh1,000 last week.
while maize flour was to sh800 from sh500.
Rice went up to sh1,600 from sh1,400 a kilo and Groundnuts was at sh1,600 from sh1,400 a kilo.
