The PAM awards night is one of those occasions where fashion exalts herself on the red carpet. Always interesting is seeing how people have interpreted the dress code.

This year’s, VIP guests were called upon to “dress to impress”. Many passed the test, but there always those who misunderstand the dress code.

What does it mean to dress in such a way that those that look at you are impressed? Of course, when you are a VIP guest, you are expected to impress in a positive and delightful way.

Some of the ladies who managed to impress were the Nnabagereka, Lady Sylvia Nagginda, Gladys Mukula, Yogi Birigwa, Brenda Mbathi and Angelina Wapakhabulo.

There were many well-dressed couples, but socialites Camille and Dr Martin Aliker made their mark. Among the men, Isaac Mulindwa stood out in a pale brown striped suit.

David Katumwa of the sports centre fame turned looking like a Japanese samurai. It was not clear what message he was trying to send but he managed to impress. How could I forget Roger Mugisha in black pinstripes and shoes so highly polished you could eat off them.

Speaking of creating a positive impression, what would you do if you were one of major sponsors of a huge event? Celtel turned to Arapapa to have specially designed shirts and dresses for their male and female staff.

The result was very impressive with the gentlemen in their black shirts with a red sash, complete with logo, running down one side from shoulder to thigh.

The ladies wore black outfits with the logo running from waist to ankle in apron form.

Some women wanted so much to impress that they ended up as overdressed as a village belle at a ball. Others totally ignored the dress code and turned up casually dressed in jeans.

I do not care what people say, but jeans are casual to smart casual wear and should never be worn to formal functions.
