Ask the doctor: Alcohol is helping me

Oct 31, 2006

Dear Doctor,<br>When I take alcohol, my urine becomes white, but when I have not taken any, it is somehow yellow. Is this normal? Also when I have sex after drinking alcohol, I enjoy for a while. But when I am not drunk, I ejaculate within minutes. Is this okay?

Dear Doctor,
When I take alcohol, my urine becomes white, but when I have not taken any, it is somehow yellow. Is this normal? Also when I have sex after drinking alcohol, I enjoy for a while. But when I am not drunk, I ejaculate within minutes. Is this okay?

Kasimba

Dear Kasimba,

Alcohol has the effect of increasing water in our urine. So, after drinking the urine is less concentrated and thus ‘white’. This is why a person passes a lot of urine after drinking. It is normal.
Alcohol may delay your ejaculation, it is a known effect.

But this does not occur with everybody. Sometimes this is due to alcohol’s ability to decrease your fears or inhibitions about sex. Nevertheless, it is not good to rely on alcohol for your staying power. It is an addictive drug whose problems will soon outweigh the benefits. Premature ejaculation is a problem which can be solved in other, less harmful ways. See a doctor about it.

Infections are disturbing us
Dear Doctor,
My girlfriend Usually gets ‘infection of the urethra’, What causes this? How can we prevent it? What causes under cuts around the ‘V’ and how can we prevent it?

Allan

Dear Allan,

‘Infection of the urethra’ is a urinary tract infection (UTI). This is an infection of the organs in the body that make and store urine. The infections usually enter through the urethra, the tube through which urine passes to get out of the body.

For the woman, most of these infections are not sexually transmitted. They are due to the bacteria going up the woman’s short urethra. They are very common during pregnancy, in diabetes, and other conditions.

Once such an infection has occurred, it is important to use antibiotics to clear it completely. This means that the woman should have a urine check confirming that the infection has cleared after treatment. If a person gets repeated UTIs, then a doctor will evaluate to find out why this is so.

UTIs can be prevented by making sure one drinks lots of water so that one always passes urine several times. They can also be prevented by always passing urine after sex.

If the UTI is the type that gets transmitted through sex (STD), the partner needs treatment too.

Could you please give more information on what you mean by ‘cuts around the Vagina?’ When do they occur? How do they occur?
