Hip-hop fashion designer, Latif Kasumba and WBS TV presenter, Racheal Kiwanuka, appeared outstanding at the 4th PAM Awards gala last week, when they showed up in hip-hop/street outfits. Most of the other people wore evening suits and gowns. Suitable culprits for the fashion cops?

Kasumba has designed stage outfits for several artistes like Lucky Dube, Juliana Kanyomoozi, Bobi Wine and Bebe Cool.

The two wore outfits true to their identity. Want to achieve Kasumba and Kiwanuka’s look?
Pick Kasumba’s outfit from Halmar Five Star Boutique on Wilson Road at sh150,000.

Get the ‘bling’ (silver neck chain) at sh80,000 from Radha

Jewellers at Sheraton Hotel’s shopping arcade. However, you could also chance upon imitations from Zainabu Aziiza Emporium, first floor at sh30,000. Buy Kasumba’s rings and wrist chain from here too for sh120,000 each.
Kasumba’s sneakers cost sh100,000 at Kagame’s Boutique on Sunset Arcade. However, they are also available at the Nakivubo Park Yard for between sh15,000 and sh20,000. Remember to haggle.

Kiwanuka’s chic sports couture costs sh160,000 at the Halmar Five Star boutique. Her danglers go for sh80,000 at Imagez on Garden City. However, if you do not mind imitations, pick them from Colville Street for sh1,000.

Fancy the hip-hop street style? It is the in-thing for many young people in town and it can take you anywhere from the street walk to the beach, pub and dance club. You can pick any of Kasumba’s denim shorts from the street adjacent to the Miniprice for sh13,000. Hip XLarge T-shirts for men go for between sh9,000 and sh15,000. Woolen caps can go for even sh1,000 in Nakivubo Park Yard. And the best second-hand basketball caps will cost you sh15,000.

You will not find a suit similar to Kiwanuka’s downtown, but you could do with different pieces that you can mix and match to your taste. Girls’ long-sleeved T-shirts cost sh9,000 at Nabugabo Road. Pick a sporty tracksuit from any sports centre in town for sh30,000. You could also pick hip, multi-pocket vinyl suits from the second-hand heaps in Nakivubo Park Yard for sh20,000. Here, you could even haggle for a lower price.
