DEFENDING champions UPDF face a stiff challenge to keep their title when the Inter-forces Games get underway today.

The four-time winners have a big task at hand to tame Uganda Wildlife Authority game rangers at Kigo shooting range today.

The rangers who only participate in shooting, edged out the UPDF, Prisons and Police last year.

After two days of action at Kigo the next stage of competition will be held at Luzira Prisons.

Uganda Prisons are hosts of the championship which involves football, athletics, volleyball, netball and handball.

Prisons, runners up in the previous event, have vowed to better their performance of last year.

They won in athletics, netball and women’s handball.

“All is set for the showdown. As hosts we have had good preparation to take on the rest,” remarked Prisons sports officer Nalis Bigingo yesterday. The annual championship is meant to promote co-operation as well as tap talent amongst the armed forces.
