Fake scales in Gulu

THE Police in Gulu have warned traders against using fake weighing stones.

Caroline Ayugi writes that a group of people are said to be locally manufacturing the stones at Go-down in Layibi division.

The community liaison officer, ASP Johnson Kilama, said over 10 of the stones were confiscated after the National Bureau of Standards carried out a one-month operation to ascertain if the weighing scales on the market were of the required standards.

“We have realised that there are many stones made in Gulu, which has made us confirm peoples’ complaints that they are being cheated by the business community,” Kilama said. “Sometimes you buy two kilos of meat but when you use another stone to weigh it you find that it is less by half or three-quarters of a kilo,” he said.
